Anthropic’s newest Opus, Claude Opus 5.5, costs 4 / 20 per million tokens, 20% less than Opus 5, and Anthropic says that’s because it needs less compute to serve. opus-5-5-mais-barato-por-servir-com-menos-computacao

The older models keep their price. On today’s list, Opus 4.5, 4.6, 4.7, 4.8 and 5 all cost 5 / 25 per million tokens, and the retired Opus 4 and 4.1 are listed at 15 / 75. preco-opus-fixo-por-geracao

On Anthropic’s list, the price drops with the next model, not with time. preco-opus-fixo-por-geracao opus-5-5-mais-barato-por-servir-com-menos-computacao

And the same price per token isn’t the same bill: Claude 4.7 and later use a tokenizer that produces about 30% more tokens for the same text. tokenizer-novo-gera-30-por-cento-mais-tokens

Zoom out, though, and the trend is wild. Epoch AI measured the cost of reaching a fixed level of performance: it fell about 13x per year since 2023. preco-desempenho-fixo-cai-13x-ao-ano

It falls fastest right after a level becomes state of the art (about 75x per year at first, about 4.7x per year two years later). queda-de-preco-mais-rapida-logo-apos-sota

GPT-3 level answers cost 60 per million tokens in 2021 and 0.06 three years later. nivel-gpt3-de-60-para-0-06-dolar

What drives it is serving each token more cheaply: better GPUs, 4-bit quantization, software, smaller models, and open models hosted by competing providers. queda-de-preco-vem-de-servir-mais-barato

The top of the line stays expensive: in 2024, OpenAI’s leading model cost the same per output token as GPT-3 did at launch, $60 per million. modelo-de-ponta-continua-caro

So I build on one assumption, and it’s an opinion, not a measurement: intelligence trends toward free. defesa-quando-ia-for-gratis What stays scarce: defesa-quando-ia-for-gratis → your own data and sources defesa-quando-ia-for-gratis → checking that the output is right (a strict JSON schema gave me valid shape and the most wrong answers) json-schema-estrito-mais-respostas-erradas → distribution and trust defesa-quando-ia-for-gratis

Caveat: Epoch’s series covers barely three years and a16z’s starts in November 2021. preco-desempenho-fixo-cai-13x-ao-ano nivel-gpt3-de-60-para-0-06-dolar

What part of your work matters more when the model is nearly free?

Post 10 · colapso de ideias (regenerado)

LinkedIn

I asked an LLM for 20 business ideas. Then I asked again. And again. ideias-sem-fonte-colapsam-entre-listas

Inside each list, no repeats. Looks diverse. ideias-sem-fonte-colapsam-entre-listas

Across lists: the second one repeated 9 of the first 20. The third repeated 17 of 20. All generic: SEO, chatbots, online courses, blogs, finance apps. ideias-sem-fonte-colapsam-entre-listas

Asking for one idea per call was worse. The same idea (a mentoring app for junior devs) came back 6 times in 20. uma-ideia-por-chamada-repete-a-mesma

Then I gave the model something to read first: one real web page per call, from the sources my idea pipeline already collects (businesses for sale, customer complaints, businesses that already work abroad). ideia-ancorada-em-pagina-nao-colapsa

20 calls, 20 different ideas, all specific: appeals for traffic fines, food safety manuals for small kitchens, payroll for household employees, watching empty houses. ideia-ancorada-em-pagina-nao-colapsa

Asking again didn’t fix it. The model has a small default repertoire, and the variety came from what I fed it. ideias-sem-fonte-colapsam-entre-listas ideia-ancorada-em-pagina-nao-colapsa

So my pipeline has a new rule: every idea starts from a page. And I track a collapse rate, the share of new ideas that look like old ones. regra-toda-ideia-nasce-de-uma-pagina

Small test: gpt-4o-mini, 44 calls, half a cent. experimentos-llm-custam-centavos Similarity measured with embeddings on the idea names, checked by eye. ideias-sem-fonte-colapsam-entre-listas

Where do your ideas come from?

O post 9 original tinha as afirmações mais fortes que as fontes (“never”, “will not”, “until retired”). O fact-check por claim pegou todas.
